The DOE provides nearly $300 million annually to SBIR/STTR grant awardees through Phase I and Phase II funding. Approximately 400 Phase I andXYZPhase II awards are given to small businesses to fund projects that provide some form of public benefit. Each year the DOE also recognizes a particular SBIR/STTR funded U.S. small business that exemplifies the spirit of the SBIR/STTR programs by strengthening and expanding its high-technology R&D competitiveness with DOE and/or the private sector. Worthy nominees are sent to the DOE’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization where they are judged on the following criteria:
